The "hArtes CarLab", which represents an entirely new collaborative way to implement audio application is now ready to demonstrate novel applications to the automotive market. The CarLab is presented at the ICT 2008 directly coming form the FAITAL’s labs.
hArtes is an EU Integrated project with the objective of realizing innovative tools to simplify the development of embedded products based on heterogeneous reconfigurable embedded platforms. This objective will be obtained by - developing a toolchain and a methodology to deal with the different challenges of effective embedded system designs;
- designing a scalable heterogeneous and reconfigurable hardware platform that can be re-targeted to produce optimized real-time embedded systems.

The CarLab is an essential component of the hArtes project as it provides the set-up to evaluate the reproduction quality of the audio applications, whose final code is produced processing the original algorithms with the hArtes tools and executing them in real-time. The validation environment has been created in a Mercedes R320 CDi V6 Sport Car, with up to 30 loudspeakers with dedicated high quality power amplifiers and up to 24 microphones required by the most demanding algorithms.
Piergiovanni Bazzana, the project coordinator, commented: "The hArtes CarLab provides an unprecedented opportunity for remote developers, to upload their algorithms and show/validate them in the real set-up, tuned by the hArtes audio professionals".
