hArtes Design Contest 2009

Future real-time embedded systems for consumer and professional products are becoming too complex to design monolithic processing platforms. Heterogeneous processing platform including combination of general purpose processors, digital signal processors (or multicores devices like the Atmel Diopsis®, that integrate both) is the solution proposed by hArtes. A new holistic approach to complex embedded system is required to efficiently exploit such platforms.

hArtes project partners are now launching the hArtes Design Contest 2009, open to students at universities, colleges, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to give a chance to the best minds to turn their ideal applications into reality and to win exciting prizes.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE IN THE CONTEST

The contest is open to undergraduate and graduate students, either working individually or in teams.
Each team will receive support and guidance by a mentor belonging to the university faculty or the SME.
Each team is free to identify its mentor.

Please refer to the documentation page for more details.

Before the first deadline, the contestants must submit a report, containing the title of the project, project goals and the planned developments steps.

The reports must conform to the following outline:

Contestants will receive the hArtes software tool pack so to become familiar with the hArtes tool-chain.

Two days training in Rome will be offered (free lodging with accommodation in double rooms) to one/two members of each selected team. During this stage, a complete hardware kit (part number AT572D940HF-EK) will be delivered to the selected contestants free of charge to allow them to realize the project. The complete contest kit consists of the Diopsis® 940HF hardware development board (part number AT572D940HF-EB), a board support package DVD, a Linux OS on Secure Digital card and cables.

The Atmel Diopsis® 940HF board enables fast application development, prototyping and debug of the AT572D940HF dual core processor, optimized for audio, communications and beam-forming applications. The board is composed of two modules: the CPU module, a Single Board Computer, and the Back Module containing an extensive set of connections for networking and external interfaces. External equipment can also be used in the project.

An application note of the project must be submitted before the final project report deadline. A template of the application note will be provided by the This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
